Today Sony announced its restructuring plan, which it hopes will bring the company out of the red and back on track. In order to appease shareholders, Sony revealed a peak into what they are working on and what they have planned for the future. Sure enough, the existence of the PS3 was hinted at, but never mentioned in whole. Adding fuel to the already out-of-control fire, Sony announced that they will promote Blu-Ray as the next-generation packaged media format. Also mentioned was their plan to use high-density optical discs (like the UMDs for PSP) to distribute games, pictures, and movies. While nothing has been officially said, it appears as if Sony is really pushing for Blu-Ray technology implementation in consumer products, which may include use in the PS3.
